Tips for Managing Study Time
- AGENDA, AGENDA, AGENDA - Always have it, Always use it!
- Keep daily activity list- to do notes.
- Set a regular time to study.
- Study in manageable increments of time- find your attention "limits".
- Study the more difficult subjects first.
- Review each subject often.
- Learn to "steal" time for studying (i.e., use a tape recorder to listen to notes while eating, study index cards while riding in the car or waiting in line).
Taking Tests:
- Have a positive attitude.
- Be prepared by studying well in advance of the test date.
- RELAX!!!!!!
- Always check your work.
- Follow all directions carefully.
- You may want to answer the easier questions first.
- Remember that your first hunch is usually correct.
- Watch for related questions which may help you get other answers
Multiple Choice Tests:
- Read the main part of the question, think of a possible answer, then look for it, read all the choices.
- Use the process of elimination by marking out all the answers you know it can't be.
- Look for qualifying words, such as always, all, none, never, or not. These are USUALLY NOT the answers.
- Be aware that there may be more than one correct answer, often seen in an answer choice of "all of the above".
True/False Statements:
- Be suspicious of very broad statements containing the key words ALWAYS or NEVER.
- Be on the lookout for phrases that may spoil the otherwise true answer.
Fill in the Blank:
- Watch the number of blank spaces, two spaces call for two words, three spaces for three.
- Does the sentence give any clues? Does it indicate the need for a verb or for a noun?
Essay Tests:
- Reread the directions and have clear in your mind what is being asked.
- Answer just what is requested.
- Outline your answer on scratch paper first.
- Organize using an outline.
- Add filling to the outline.
- Use main points as headings.
- Give examples and illustrations.
- Check and double check your answers.
Standardized Tests:
- Use a No. 2 pencil only.
- Carefully fill in the appropriate box on the answer sheet- be neat and make your marks dark.
- Be sure your marking on the correct portion of the answer sheet and your answer number matches up with the test item number.
