20 Tips for Academic Survival

Above All - User Your Agenda! Always have it! Always use it!

  1. Have one assigned place for doing homework.
  2. Make sure your study place is quiet.
  3. Have a well lit study place.
  4. Have appropriate supplies, (ex. pencils, pens, paper, rulers, dictionary, thesaurus, calculator)
  5. Make sure you get at least 8 hours of sleep daily.
  6. Eat 3 well balanced meals and 2 healthy snacks a day.
  7. Take a short stretch break between subjects.
  8. Have someone check your work when you are finished.
  9. Keep your school supplies and materials organized.
  10. Place school supplies in a secure, accessible place so you can grab them on your way out the door each morning.
  11. Keep assignments written in your agenda.

  13. Schedule regular study times.
  14. Begin preparing for tests and lengthy assignments as soon as you know about them.
  15. Utilize a variety of resources, such as the library, the Internet, and Kennedy Before School Help 7:50-8:20 and Kennedy After School Help 3:15-4:00.
  16. Use index cards to study spelling and vocabulary words.
  17. Rewrite your notes, so that you are gaining kinesthetic and visual study stimulation.
  18. Read your notes out loud to get auditory study stimulation.
  19. Have someone drill you before tests.
  20. If you are going to be out, call for books and assignments.
