20 Tips for Academic Survival
Above All - User Your Agenda! Always have it! Always use it!
- Have one assigned place for doing homework.
- Make sure your study place is quiet.
- Have a well lit study place.
- Have appropriate supplies, (ex. pencils, pens, paper, rulers, dictionary, thesaurus, calculator)
- Make sure you get at least 8 hours of sleep daily.
- Eat 3 well balanced meals and 2 healthy snacks a day.
- Take a short stretch break between subjects.
- Have someone check your work when you are finished.
- Keep your school supplies and materials organized.
- Place school supplies in a secure, accessible place so you can grab them on your way out the door each morning.
- Keep assignments written in your agenda.

- Schedule regular study times.
- Begin preparing for tests and lengthy assignments as soon as you know about them.
- Utilize a variety of resources, such as the library, the Internet, and Kennedy Before School Help 7:50-8:20 and Kennedy After School Help 3:15-4:00.
- Use index cards to study spelling and vocabulary words.
- Rewrite your notes, so that you are gaining kinesthetic and visual study stimulation.
- Read your notes out loud to get auditory study stimulation.
- Have someone drill you before tests.
- If you are going to be out, call for books and assignments.
