| MUSIC FACT : Asian countries like Taiwan, Singapore, and Japan rank among the top countries in the world in math and science scores, whereas the United States ranks near the bottom on the list of developed countries. Are Asian students inherently smarter? Culture is always part of the equation, but music might play a big role. In Japan (as in other countries near the top of the list), music is a required, equal, major discipline in the curriculum and all students get strong music training in grades 1-9.
